Sustainability in fashion often focuses on fabrics, dyes, or recycling — and those are vital. But there’s a more intimate sustainability: garments that fit, so we enjoy them and keep them longer. Frankly, ending fashion waste is a pleasure.
The Hidden Waste of Poor Fit
Most clothing waste stems from poor fit. We buy, try, then donate or discard. Mass-produced clothes can’t account for the shape of real people. The result? A closet full of compromises and disappointment.
The Femme Noir Approach
Our process eliminates waste by beginning with your body. We draft a 3D pattern (sloper) just for you. The first garment is built on your shape, and the garments after that are constructed with zero guesswork. That’s precision. That’s less waste.
Regeneration vs. Production
Another way we reduce waste is through regeneration. Vintage slips become dresses. Old jeans become new trousers. Muslin toiles (the sample garments we sew first in inexpensive fabric called muslin) ensure that we only cut into your final fabric once so that it’s perfect, or at least darn near perfect!
It’s sustainable, it’s aesthetic, and it is imbued with pleasure!
